NOBU HOTEL LOS CABOS

A Grand Opening:
Nobu's Signature Sake Ceremony

For over three hundred years, the traditional Japanese Sake Ceremony (also known as Kagami-biraki, is a ceremony performed at celebratory events in which the lid of the sake barrel is broken open by a wooden mallet and the sake is served to everyone present. This opening of the cask is said to bring blessings of health, prosperity, and happiness to all those present. And thanks to chef Nobu Matsuhisa, it’s a celebratory event that marks the official inauguration of each and every Nobu Hotel that opens all over the world. The sake ceremony is an important signature touch that goes far beyond the usual ribbon-cutting, which is typically a subdued affair.

And just last week, co-founders Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper, celebrated the official launch of Nobu Hotel Los Cabos (a property we could not be more excited about!) with this grand opening moment. Following the cutting of the ribbon, guests gathered for the traditional sake ceremony to the sound of Japanese Taiko drummers — where the lid of the sake barrel (filled with five gallons of Nobu’s very own ‘The Sake’ Junmai Diaginjo, of course!) was broken and served in traditional masu cups for a grand toast. There was an extravagant fireworks display and the celebrations continued throughout the evening. Suffice to say — it marked the beginning of the brand's first foray into Mexico and was done in true Nobu-style. The anticipation of this really incredible property on the Baja Peninsula is finally over!
