The concept of luxury camping — better known as glamping — has taken the travel world by storm. And we must admit, we're totally drinking the Kool-Aid! Who could say no to spending a night under the stars in an oversized tent, a plush bed outfitted in high thread-count sheets, and every luxe amenity imaginable at your finger tips?
Get this: you don't have to go into the wild to go glamping, now that the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel — the very place where Julia Roberts strutted her stuff in Pretty Woman — is offering its own take on the trendy experience. Beverly Wilshire has launched the first-ever urban glamping experience in Los Angeles. Bringing a touch of the "great outdoors" to its Veranda Suite terrace, the pop-up will be available for a limited time through December 2017. It's almost impossible to imagine a more glamorous site than the urban Beverly Hills landmark.
The exclusive and temporary — like all great things — experience takes place in the distinctive Veranda Suite, the only one in the hotel that has its very own floor, 10 stories up. You'll make a grand entrance for your night under the stars as you access the suite by the original 1928 wrought iron and marble staircase. Of course, glamping is all about the atmosphere and view, and here it’s appropriately epic: a 2,140 square-foot terrace with 270-degree views of the Hollywood Hills and Rodeo Drive.
The tent is expansive, too. Sixteen feet in diameter, 10 feet tall in the center and outfitted with the coveted queen-size bed made with silky Four Seasons linens, a crystal chandelier, marble lamps, fur rugs and antique nightstands. Lounge furniture outside allows for outdoor dining for eight, and oversized seating around a fireplace where, naturally, there will be s'mores later. (Guests also have access to the full interior space of the Veranda Suite, which has a king-size bed and marble bathroom.)
For a truly unforgettable stay and with an added cost of $185 per person, the hotel's executive chef and pastry chef will prepare an ultimate glamping tasting menu. The menu includes "Special Reserve" Ossetra caviar, Japanese Ultra Wagyu beef and the fanciest s'mores known to man, using smoked 55 percent Valrhona chocolate, Tahitian vanilla bean marshmallow and — because why not? — 24k gold leaf. Oh, and dessert is paired with a vintage champagne flight. Can't you just picture Roberts eating this up in Pretty Woman?
