Formerly known as The Championships, Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis championship event. Held at the All England Club since 1877, Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments (a.k.a. Majors).  It is the only Major still played on grass, the game's original surface, which gave the game its original name of "lawn tennis".
