From Jamiaca, with love…
Given that GoldenEye Hotel & Resort was built for 007's alter ego and creator, Ian Fleming, the property obviously had to breathe glamour and sophistication every inch of the Caribbean retreat. Legends, influential radicals and celebrity greats have all flocked to Jamaica’s northern shores for decades. The property features a collection of cottages & suites surrounded by an idyllic beach, treetop restaurant, swim-up spa and well-appointed bedrooms. If you’re feeling especially indulgent, opt for the five-room former Fleming villa that has it’s own private pool, garden and, of course, own staff.
Accommodations at the property include Beach and Lagoon Villas, and the newest addition, Beach Huts. The air-conditioned Beach and Lagoon Villas, both comfortable and spacious, come in one-bedroom or two-bedroom options, each with a full kitchen and outfitted with a retro fridge. While there are no indoor showers, the villas have freestanding bathtubs with a handheld shower head. That said – there are beautiful outdoor showers that you’re bound to love even if that isn’t your usual go-to. The private verandas are the perfect place for lounging. Do note that the lagoon-facing accommodations feel a bit more private and secluded.
A short walk from the rest of the resort, you’ll find the more modern Beach Huts clustered closer together. Take a hint from the word ‘hut’, as the footprint of the beach huts are slightly smaller than the Villas and offer a little more rustic stay with no air-conditioning. Don’t panic, though! They were designed in such a way that a comfortable breeze flows through the room, even in the summer! Like the Villas, though, the Beach Huts come with an outdoor seating area and a daybed for lounging. Offered at a lower price point, the huts attract a younger, livelier crowd, and have a pool, a bar, and a soon-to-be-opened restaurant on that side of the property.
The activities are endless and the lagoon is your playground. While there are no monkey bars, there are jet skis, paddle boards, kayaks, snorkels, and so much more. On land, play tennis or take a reggae-infused yoga class. Don’t tire out too quickly, as you can arrive at GoldenEye’s open-air spa cottage by walking, swimming, or even kayaking. FieldSpa takes a very personalized approach to spa-ing, be it a massage, a scrub or wrap (go for their signature lemon scrub!), along with their fitness programs.
The food, man... With two restaurants at the hotel: one an elegant choice, Gazebo, which set in the treetops that can be reached by an illuminated drawbridge, and the other, Bizot Bar, which is a more beachy, casual resto. Keeping with authentic and absolutely delicious local Jamaican cuisine (lots of jerk), there are plenty of options for those who prefer more mainstay fare like salads, burgers, pastas, and fresh seafood options.
